Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I get a library card?

You can get a library card by walking into the library and filling out a form in person, or via our website(link).


2. How old do I have to be to get a library card?

Our youngest patrons are 3 years old!


3. How many items can I check out?

The limit is 200 for books and 100 for media. Kits and tech items are limited to 2 per card.


4. How long can I check items out?

Book checkouts are 3 weeks, TV shows are 2 weeks, and movies are 1 week. Tech items are 2 weeks and kits are 1 week. You can check all your due dates (and renew items) on your MORE account(link).


5. How do I place a hold?

You can place a hold via your MORE account(link), or by calling the library directly and requesting the item.


6. How does parking work at the Library?

The lot directly east of the Library is free for library patrons. Simply write down the make and model of your vehicle and license plate number on the clipboard provided at the circulation desk for 3 hours of free parking. The street parking outside the Library is not free.


7. How do I get a meeting room?

Just call and ask! If you are already at the Library, you can talk to the staff person at the Youth Desk, which is where the reservation book is kept. Meetings cannot cost money or market other purchases. One meeting attendee must have a MORE library card. See the Library website (link) to view all the requirements and limitations of reserving a meeting room.


8. Are kits free?

Yes, kits are free! Limit is 2 kits per card at a time. Kits do have a daily late fee of $1/day, up to $10.


9. Do you have late fees?

Hudson Area Public Library does not have daily late fees for most items. The exceptions are kits ($1/day late, up to $10), lawn games, and tech items. All other items have a 21-day grace period before the account is charged with the price to replace the item and a $5 billing fee. If a missing item is returned, the replacement fee is removed; the $5 billing fee stays.


10.   How do I sign up for a program?

Many of our programs do not require sign up. The monthly calendar (both online and printed) will specify if registration is required. You can email your registration request to hudsonpl@hudsonpubliclibrary.org or call the Library at 715-386-3101. And remember—Library programs are always FREE!
