1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

The concept is simple and the rewards are priceless. Read 1,000 books before your little one starts kindergarten.

Read a book (any book, even repeat books!) to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler.

Don’t be intimidated –  just 1 book a night, you will have read about 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years. The key is perseverance so let’s make it exciting!

When your child reaches a milestone, stop by the Hudson Area Public Library for a small reward (stickers, books). We will help you track your progress and provide rewards along the way!

To register, stop by the Youth Services Desk and ask a librarian the next time you visit the Library.

Who can participate?
Any child from birth until they enter Kindergarten.

How Does the Program Work?

Just sign-up and track your reading in your online log (or paper log, if you prefer). For each milestone, come in and pick up your child’s prize.

Thanks to Hudson Area Library Foundation and the Friends of the Hudson Area Public Library for their generous sponsorship of this program.

STEM Corner

We have great links to fun STEM activities to entertain kids and keep them engaged academically.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has produced a website called Full STEAM Ahead that has resources and lessons for PK – 12th grade.

NASA At Home is an amazing collection of resources including podcasts, videos, Storytime From Space and more. Check out these amazing resources (updated daily).

K-Kids – A Service Club
for Kids

Our K-Kids group is a community service club for kids in grades 3-5. We meet the 1st Saturday of each month 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at the library. Together we run our own meetings, manage our money, and decide on our service projects. We are learning that by working together we can make a difference in our community.

If you would like to join us or learn more about us please email Joan at joanbushman@hudsonpubliclibrary.org. To learn more about K-Kids visit www.kiwaniskids.org
