On any given non-pandemic day, the library’s computer stations are nearly full from morning to night. Patrons write resumes, research family history, check email or simply surf the web for recipes.
That’s all changed during COVID because of the library’s short hours, capacity limits and social distancing, so we’ve reimagined our technology resources to support the community. If the virtual world has helped you cope with the pandemic, imagine living in a home without that support.
Some patrons don’t have a functioning computer or a printer. They lack Internet access. Others have equipment, but they need technical assistance from staff. We’ve expanded our computer station appointments to ensure everyone who needs access can get it. The new computer hours: Monday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Tuesday 10 a.m. – 8 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Friday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Appointments are required to ensure social distancing. The library requires masks due to the recent Governor’s order.
We also reopened test proctoring services. And if you need WiFi outside of normal hours, our service has been expanded. You can sit in the library’s parking lot, the beach lot or other nearby places and tap into WiFi – no password required. Patrons can also checkout hotspots and Chromebooks.
With high unemployment caused by the pandemic, the community needs a safe place where job seekers can search ads, work on resumes and submit applications. We’re happy we can provide it for them.
Check out the virtual resources on the website, too, under the tabs for Community Resources and Virtual Library.
